The invention relates to transparent fiber and a preparation method thereof. The transparent fiber contains a polyimide structure, and the polyimide structure also contains a fluorine substituent structure; the transparent fiber further contains a silicon-oxygen bond structure; the light transmittance of the transparent fiber in the near-infrared light field can reach 90% or above, and the light refractive index is 1.3-1.6; and the silicon-oxygen bond structure accounts for 0.5-10% of the weight of the whole fiber, and the weight-average molecular weight is 2000 or below.
