The invention provides a casting method for a reduction gearbox shell. The casting method comprises the following steps: S1, sand preparation: preparing molding sand and core sand; S2, mold preparation: preparing a mold which comprises a sand mold, a sand core and a sand box, wherein the sand mold is arranged in the sand box, the sand core is arranged in the sand mold, and a casting cavity is formed; S3, casting molding: injecting a molten metal liquid into the casting cavity till the casting cavity is fully filled with the molten metal liquid, and carrying out cooling molding so as to obtain a casting; S4, casting appearance detection: observing whether any appearance defects exist on the surface of the casting or not, wherein the machining operation is carried out till the qualification demand is met if the casting is unqualified, the scrap disposition is carried out if the casting cannot reach the acceptable quality through later machining, and the next working procedure is carried out if the casting is qu
