The invention discloses a test device for applying a bidirectional shear load. The test device comprises an adjusting hand wheel assembly, a cross beam assembly, a push-pull actuator cylinder assembly, a stand column assembly, a balance hand wheel assembly and a test piece assembly, the stand column assembly is installed on one side of the cross beam assembly, the adjusting hand wheel assembly and the balance hand wheel assembly are located at the two ends of the cross beam assembly, and the test piece assembly is installed on the side face of the stand column assembly and connected with the cross beam assembly through the push-pull actuator cylinder assembly. The adjusting hand wheel assembly, the cross beam assembly, the stand column assembly and the balancing hand wheel assembly form a self-balancing device. During test installation, after the positions of the actuator cylinder fixing double lugs and the upper fixing double lugs on the transverse sliding rail and the longitudinal sliding rail are determine
