The invention belongs to the technical field of fuel leakage detection, and discloses a fuel leakage detection system which comprises a fuel tank, a test box, a main control device and an abnormal alarm. A lifting pump is arranged in the fuel tank. A distance measuring sensor is arranged at the top of the test box, and the test box is detachably communicated with the fuel tank; the main control device is electrically connected with the lifting pump and used for controlling the lifting pump to be opened or closed. The main control device is provided with a timer and a processor, and the processor is electrically connected with the distance measuring sensor and the timer; and the abnormity alarm is electrically connected with the processor. A pressure-sensitive sensor is replaced with the distance measuring sensor, and due to the fact that the conveying power of fuel is certain, leakage detection is achieved through reasonable calculation. The invention further discloses a detection method based on the system.
