This power unit for straddle-type vehicles is equipped with: an alternating current generator (54) having a rotor (72) that is coupled to a crankshaft on the outer side of a crankcase (38) and rotates about the axis of rotation (Rx) of the crankshaft; and a case cover (55, 57) covering the crankcase (38) from the outer side and housing the alternating current generator (54) therein.
