An adjustable head protecting device assembly is provided with a pair of vertical struts adapted to be mounted proximate a seatback. The head protecting device frame with a guide is mounted to the pair of vertical struts for translation relative to the pair of vertical struts. A retention mechanism is disposed on the head restraint frame to cooperate with the pair of vertical struts to retain the head restraint frame relative to the pair of vertical struts.
