A method of a joint encoding scheme with an interleaver and a tone mapper for multi-resource unit (RU) operation involves performing joint encoding of a plurality of information bits to generate a plurality of encoded bit sequences. The method involves processing the plurality of encoded bit sequences by interleaving and tone mapping the plurality of encoded bit sequences relative to a plurality of RUs based on either or both of an aggregated RU and a single RU to produce a plurality of processed bit sequences.
