The invention relates to a data archiving method and system on a blockchain. The method comprises the steps of dividing traditional full nodes in the blockchain into accounting nodes and historical archiving nodes according to function setting; when the blockchain is extended to a capacity limit value set by the system, triggering an archiving operation; and replacing an archived first blockchainsegment with an index block at a corresponding position of the accounting node blockchain, wherein the index block is used for pointing to archived historical data of the historical archiving node.
