Summary:The invention provides a position detection device which is simple in structure and high in precision. An encoder (1) is provided with a rotation detection unit (11), a reference position detection unit (12), an output unit (15), and a storage unit (18). A rotation detection unit (11) outputs a periodic rotation detection signal (S1) having a first resolution (Ri) on the basis of the rotational position of a rotor (81).
