Summary:The invention relates to an assembly for converting the thermal energy of dissipated heat of an internal combustion engine (1), in particular of a motor vehicle, into mechanical energy. A working circuit (2) is provided for a working medium which can be heated and evaporated using the dissipated heat, and an expansion machine (6) is provided in the working circuit (2) in order to harvest mechanical energy from the heat of the working medium. The working circuit (2) runs through a heat exchanger arranged upstream of the expansion machine (6) in the flow direction (S) of the working medium, andthe heat exchanger comprises an exhaust gas recirculation heat exchanger (4) with a colder section (4.1) and a hotter section (4.2), an exhaust gas heat exchanger (3), and a phase transition cooler inthe internal combustion engine (1), said internal combustion engine (1) comprising at least one cylinder (40) with a cylinder liner (41). The heat exchanger is formed as a series connection in the order of the colder section
