Summary:As a poly(vinyl alcohol)-based film for producing a polarizing film, from which it is possible to produce a polarizing film which can reduce shrinkage in the width direction during production of the polarizing film, that is, a polarizing film having a high width yield, the present invention provides a poly(vinyl alcohol)-based film which has a thickness of 5-75 [Mu]m, a width of 2 m or more and alength of 2 km or more and which is characterized in that the degree of swelling X (%) in the width direction after being immersed for 5 minutes in water at 23.5 DEG C is such that 120<=X<=140, and the film width yield W (%), as determined by carrying out a polarizing film production test, is such that W>=43. 作为能够减少偏光膜制造时在宽度方向上的收缩的、即能以高的宽度获得率制造偏光膜的偏光膜制造用聚乙烯醇系薄膜,提供一种偏光膜制造用聚乙烯醇系薄膜,其特征在于,是厚度5~75μm、宽度2m以上、长度2km以上的聚乙烯醇系薄膜,在23.5℃下水中浸渍5分钟后的宽度方向的溶胀度X(%)为120≤X≤140,并且,通过进行偏光膜制造试验而求出的薄膜宽度获得率W(%)为W≥43。
