The invention belongs to the field of elevators, and discloses an elevator disinfection method and a system thereof. The elevator disinfection method comprises the steps that elevator running is performed; a processing unit emits a germ counting signal, and when a germ counting device receives the germ counting signal, the germ counting device is started for collecting germs in the air in a car lift; the germ counting device photographs the collected germs, the processing unit receives the germ image, processes the germ image to obtain a germ numerical value, and compares the germ numerical value with a disinfection threshold value; and if the germ numerical value is less than the disinfection threshold value, the elevator continues to run; and if the germ numerical value is greater than or equal to the disinfection threshold value, the elevator stops running, a disinfection program is started, a disinfection unit receives a start disinfection program signal, disinfection is carried out on the car lift, and t
