The invention discloses a system and method for treating stale waste in landfills, and belongs to the technical field of domestic waste treatment. The system comprises a separation platform, a combustible waste treatment system and a sludge treatment system, the separation platform comprises a feeding machine, a magnetic separator I, a manual separation platform, a crusher I, a drum screen I, a dryer I, a bounce screen, a magnetic separator II and an air separator system. Part of large building waste and metal are selected through the drum screen I, residue enters the bounce screen for secondary separation, small metal such as copper, aluminum and iron, and sludge are separated, residue is conveyed to an air separator through a belt for tertiary separation, combustible waste is separated,the combustible waste is gasified through the combustible waste treatment system to be converted into combustible gas, and the sludge is converted into building bricks through the sludge treatment system. Resource utilization
