There is provided a method of measuring a mass of an ion species in a mass stream. Where the mass stream is a mass stream emitted from a separation device as a function of a separation parameter, themethod comprises: obtaining a mass trace for the ion species, wherein the mass trace comprises a set of intensity peaks, each intensity peak providing a respective measured mass and a respective signal measured by a mass spectrometer; and determining the mass of the ion species as an extrapolation of the measured masses of the set of intensity peaks of the mass trace towards a signal zero. 提供一种测量物质流中的离子种类的质量的方法。在所述物质流是从分离装置中发射的随分离参数变化而变化的物质流情况下，所述方法包括：获得所述离子种类的质量迹线，其中所述质量迹线包含强度峰集合，每个强度峰提供由质谱仪测得的相应实测质量和相应信号；以及将所述离子种类的质量作为质量迹线的强度峰集合的实测质量向信号零的外推来测定。
