A pigment composition which comprises at least one pigment selected from the group consisting of perinone-based pigments and perylene-based pigments, water, a resin having a constituent unit represented by formula 1, and at least one compound selected from the group consisting of carboxyalkylated phthalimide compounds and carboxyalkylated naphthalimide compounds; a method for producing the pigmentcomposition; and a water-based ink composition comprising the pigment composition.
