The invention discloses a traffic safety early warning method based on highway traffic flow abrupt change, which can discover traffic abnormal conditions by judging the flow abrupt change, can help atraffic management department to discover traffic abnormal events in advance, and can effectively formulate management and dredging measures. The method comprises the following steps: acquiring road basic information between adjacent nodes of an expressway; according to the acquired basic information, processing data according to four characteristics of roads, time, road flow and weather, and applying a long-short memory model to predict the traffic flow of the downstream intersection; acquiring and comparing the actual flow of the downstream intersection with the predicted flow for analysis,and judgining the traffic state; and judging whether an abnormal condition exists between the two acquisition points or not according to an analysis result of the traffic flow mutation, and carrying out timely early warning fo
