Summary:A method is used for acquiring and displaying an immunofluorescence image of a biological sample. During a first operating state, the sample is continuously illuminated using the excitation radiation.A relative position between the sample and an optical system, which guides the fluorescent radiation to an image sensor, is changed in dependence on a movement gesture of a user, and a correspondingdigital image is displayed. Upon detection of a termination of the movement gesture, a change is made from the first operating state to a second operating state. In the second operating state, the sample is firstly illuminated using the excitation radiation to excite the fluorescent radiation of the fluorescent pigment. An acquisition of fluorescent radiation emitted by the sample then takes placeand a corresponding, further digital image is generated. In the second operating state, the acquisition of the emitted fluorescent radiation and the illumination of the sample are terminated after lapse of the second acquisiti
