Summary: | A method for self-testing a monitoring device (17) monitoring an integrity status of a suspension member arrangement (9) in an elevator (1) is proposed. Therein, the monitoring device (17) is configured with a voltage generation arrangement (21) for generating electric voltages and applying the electric voltages to cords (33) comprised in suspension members (11) of the suspension member arrangement (9). Furthermore, the monitoring device (17) is configured with a voltage analyzer arrangement (23) for detecting deterioration in the integrity status based on modifications in the applied electricvoltages upon transmission through the cords (33).
