Summary:The invention relates to a method for degrading halogenated p-hydroxyaniline or o-hydroxyaniline. The invention relates to a method for degrading halogenated para-hydroxyanilines or o-hydroxyanilines,preferably chlorine or bromine substituted para-hydroxyanilines or o-hydroxyanilines, from an aqueous medium. The invention relates to a method for degrading halogenated para-hydroxyaniline or halogenated o-hydroxyaniline from an aqueous medium, the aqueous medium being treated with an oxygen-containing gas, preferably air, at a pH of 10 to 14 at a temperature of from 70 DEG C to 100 DEG C. The invention also relates to a method for degrading halogenated para-hydroxyaniline or halogenated o-hydroxyaniline from an aqueous medium. It has now been surprisingly found that the AOX value of an aqueous medium is significantly increased when an oxygen-containing gas, preferably air, is introduced into the halogenated para-hydroxyaniline or o-hydroxyaniline-containing aqueous medium at a temperature of 70 DEG C to 100 DEG
