The invention provides a cutting method applicable to a diffraction grating. The cutting method comprises the following steps: S1, protecting the surface of the diffraction grating to be cut to prepare a diffraction grating protecting structure; S2, fixing the diffraction grating protecting structure to a cutting machine, and cutting the diffraction grating protecting structure into required sizes; and S3, performing surface protection removing treatment on the cut diffraction grating protecting structures with small sizes. According to the cutting method applicable to the diffraction gratingprovided by the invention, the surface of the diffraction grating is effectively protected, so that the surface of the diffraction grating is prevented from directly exposing in air; irreparable damage to the diffraction grating caused by the dust produced by cutting and a cutting liquid in a cutting machining process is avoided; the application of the cutting machining to the processing treatmentof the diffraction gratin
