The organic electroluminescent element includes, in order on a substrate, a first electrode layer, a light-emitting layer, a second electrode layer, a first refractive index layer, and a second refractive index layer. The first refractive index layer and the second refractive index layer are in contact with each other at an interface. The light-emitting layer has a light-emitting region opposed to the first electrode layer.
