The invention relates to a steering assistance method based on a driver assistance system, for a vehicle (1) with a steering system (20) with steering assistance (50) and particularly for a motor vehicle for assisting a driver during the steering of the vehicle (1) by means of the steering system (20), in which (i) a driving situation of the vehicle (1) is detected; (ii) the driving behaviour of the vehicle (1) is acted upon according to the driving situation, the supporting driver assistance system (60) defining a nominal value for at least one regulating variable of the steering system (20) and conditionally requesting same from the steering system (20) by means of a driver assistance interface (70); (iii) and a corrective action being generated by a monitoring function (80) downstream of the driver assistance interface (70) and upstream of the request to the steering system (20), if the nominal value does not meet a pre-defined permissible criterion. The invention also relates to steering assistance (50) b
