The present invention relates to a method of customizing a component (10, 16, 20) of a hearing device (12) to the ear of a hearing device user. The method comprises the steps of providing said hearingdevice component (10, 16, 20) as a pre-form comprising a shape-memory material, heating said hearing device component (10, 16, 20), and bringing said hearing device component (10, 16, 20) in contactwith at least a portion of the ear after reaching a pre-set contact temperature such that the hearing device component (10, 16, 20) conforms to the individual shape of said at least a portion of ear.The shape of said hearing device component (10, 16, 20) is fixed by attending a hardening time of said shape-memory material.
