Summary: | The invention provides an electrolyte composition and a metal ion battery comprising the same. The electrolyte composition comprises a metal halide, a solvent and an additive. The solvent is halogenated ionic liquid or an organic solvent. The molar ratio of the metal halide to the solvent is 1:1 to 2.2:1. The content of the additive is 0.1-25wt%, with the total weight of the metal halide and the solvent as a benchmark. The additive is monochlorethane, trichloro ethylene, dichloroethane, trichloroethane, phosphorus trichloride, phosphorus pentachloride, methylpyridine, methyl nicotinate, or a combination thereof. The conductivity of the electrolyte composition is improved, the capacity of the metal ion battery is increased, the charging time is shortened, and the cycle life of the metal ionbattery is prolonged.
