The invention discloses a brightness detecting device and method for a rail transit signal machine. The device comprises a processor and also comprises an illuminance detecting module, a latitude andlongitude positioning module and a laser positioning module connected to the processor. The latitude and longitude positioning module is used for sequentially acquiring latitude and longitude coordinates of the position of the signal machine and a detection position. The laser positioning module is used for emitting a laser beam to a signal machine bulb to be detected to perform positioning. The illuminance detection module is used for aiming at the signal machine bulb according to the laser beam and obtaining the illuminance of the bulb.
