The invention provides absorbent paper and a preparation method thereof. The absorbent paper is prepared from components in parts by weight as follows: 20-80 parts of oven dry pulp, 10-50 parts of modified polyacrylonitrile fiber and a cationic fluorine-containing styrene-acrylic copolymer surface sizing agent, wherein one side of the absorbent paper is coated with the cationic fluorine-containingstyrene-acrylic copolymer surface sizing agent while the other side is not coated with the cationic fluorine-containing styrene-acrylic copolymer surface sizing agent.
