Summary:A method for manufacturing a graphene composite product is provided, The method forms an initial composite structure comprising graphite within a compressive support structure configured to retain graphite within the compressive support structure during mechanical deformation and to apply to the initial composite structure an iterative mechanical deformation process comprising a plurality of mechanical deformation iterations. Each iteration uses a forming process configured to apply transverse and longitudinal forces to the composite structure to compress graphite within the compression support structure to densify graphite within the compression support structure. Sufficient iteration is performed to shear the graphene layer from the graphite particles of the graphite within the compressed support structure to provide a graphene composite product.
