To provide a method for estimating a gas discharge amount with which it becomes possible to more accurately estimate the amount of gas discharged from a fixed-roof storage tank storing liquid containing a volatile substance. In estimating the amount of gas discharged from a storage tank 1 storing liquid 31 containing a volatile substance, in a first step, presuppositions, such as the tank shape ofthe fixed-roof storage tank 1 and the operating pressure of a relief valve 211, are set, and in a second step, initial conditions for the contained volume, temperature, and pressure of the liquid 31and gas 32 in the storage tank 1 are set.
