The invention discloses a polyhydroxy phosphate flame retardant as well as a preparation method and application thereof. The preparation method comprises the following steps of (1) adding a solvent and neopentyl glycol phosphoryl chloride into a three-opening flask provided with a stirring rod, a temperature indicator and a backflow condensing pipe; performing uniform stirring; then, dripping solvents and 2-amino-2-methyl-1,3-propanediol mixed with acid-binding agents under the stirring condition; (2) after the dripping completion, raising the temperature for reaction; (3) after the reaction is completed, performing rotary evaporation to remove solvents; washing obtained white solids by solvents for twice to three times; performing drying to obtain the polyhydroxy phosphate flame retardant.
