The invention relates to a method for prolonging the service life of a wire drawing die. The method comprises four steps of numbering dies in different passes, numbering dies in the same pass, installing the dies and carrying out segmented maintenance, wherein the numbering step is used for respectively numbering the dies in different passes and the same pass by different numbers; during a die installing process, the dies in different passes are installed according to the numbers, and the pore diameters of the dies in the same pass are sequentially reduced or sequentially increased from insideto outside; the segmented maintenance is used for carrying out unified return-to-factory maintenance on several passes of dies of which the passed mileages are approximate.
