The invention discloses a method for preparing a hot melt adhesive. The method comprises the following steps: by taking proper microcrystalline wax as a raw material, based on a common sweating process, forming stable micro air bubbles in a wax layer by the sweating raw material under the action of an air bubble stabilizer to form a channel for discharging oil to promote quick discharge of a liquid component; adding a high-temperature constant-temperature stage at the proper temperature in a cooling process, carrying out the liquid component through the wax layer by means of an air flow in the sweating process to separate solid and liquid components so as to produce a viscosity modifier for the hot melt adhesive with a low oil content; and blending the viscosity modifier with basic resin, tackifying resin and an antioxidant to prepare the hot melt adhesive.
