The invention provides a reagent piece storage apparatus and a method of detecting a reagent piece storage quantity. The apparatus comprises a reagent piece clip and a signal processing apparatus. The signal processing apparatus is arranged outside one side wall which adjoins the reagent piece clip. The signal processing apparatus is provided with a light source signal emitter and a light source signal receiver. The light source signal receiver is located on a lower portion of the light source signal emitter. The side wall of the reagent piece clip, which adjoins the signal processing apparatus, is provided with an emission hole corresponding to the light source signal emitter and a receiving hole corresponding to the light source signal receiver. An inner wall of the side wall which is opposite to the emission hole and the receiving hole on the reagent piece clip is provided with a rough surface which can carry out diffuse reflection on an emitted light source signal. A quantity of the reagent pieces in the
