Summary: | The invention provides a catalyst composition for ethylene tetramerization, which comprises a ligand compound shown as formula I as shown in the specification, a transition metal compound, a promoter and tert-butyl hydroperoxide, wherein R1, R2, R3 and R4 are the same or different and are independently selected from hydrogen, alkyl, alkoxyl, cycloalkyl or halogen; and R5 and R6 are the same or different and are independently selected from monocyclic or polycyclic aryl. The invention further provides a method of the ethylene tetramerization, which comprises the step of performing an ethylene tetramerization reaction in the presence of the catalyst composition for the ethylene tetramerization. the catalyst composition has superhigh reactivity, and the reaction is initiated rapidly, runs steadily, and is good in repeatability.
