Summary: | The inventors of the present invention arrived at the present invention by discovering that the deoxyhypusine synthase (DHPS) gene, which has been reported to be connected to such cancers as prostate cancer and cervical cancer, is surprisingly very highly correlated with arteriosclerosis and digestive system cancers and can be used as a desired marker for arteriosclerosis and digestive system cancers. Specifically, the present invention provides a detection method for arteriosclerosis and digestive system cancers that verifies the expression of the deoxyhypusine synthase gene in a test sample, preferably a blood specimen, and that detects arteriosclerosis and digestive system cancers in a test subject using enhanced expression of said gene as an indicator.
