Zinc nitrate hexahydrate and cobalt nitrate hexahydrate are mixed at a certain ratio, and a zinc oxide-cobaltous oxide precursor is prepared through a template method; then a zinc oxide-cobaltous oxide hollow polyhedron is acquired through heat treatment; a film appliance is prepared by a silk-screen printing method. In the mixing scale (the mole ratio of zinc oxide and cobaltous oxide is 0, 0.5 mol.%, 2 mol.%, and 4 mol.%), 2 mol.% is the best mixing. In the tested temperature scale (100-300 DEG C), the best working temperature is reduced to 200 DEG C as for 2 mol.% ZnO-CO3O4 and 4 mol.% ZnO-CO3O4. The sensitivity of the 2 mol.% ZnO-CO3O4 is up to 106 in relative to 1000 ppm ethanol under 200 DEG C; the response/recovery time is 7/236 seconds.
