Summary:The invention provides a mobile terminal based currency examination method and apparatus. The method comprises the following steps: starting the function of currency examination when the currency examination request sent by a user from the preset button on the mobile terminal or from the touch screen is received; and controlling the ultraviolet irradiation module in the mobile terminal to emit ultraviolet light; during the emission of the ultraviolet light, photographing the image of the banknote; and based on the fluorescent pattern on the photographed image, determining the currency examination result and displaying the currency examination result. According to the invention, an ultraviolet irradiation module is arranged in a mobile terminal.
