Summary:The invention relates to event queue management. A queue storage (18) queues event entries from a hardware event detector (10). The event entries are to be communicated to a software event handler (17). An event register (20) stores a newly received event entry. A comparator (22) compares the received event entry with contents of the event register, and if a match is detected, the event entries are combined by setting a combination entry bit and discarding the newly received event entry. When an unmatched event entry is received, the unqueued event entries in the event register are stored in the queue storage. If the queue storage is empty, the event register and the comparator are bypassed. When the queue storage turns empty, any currently unqueued event within the event register is stored into the queue storage.
