It is an object of the present invention to provide a boiler operating method and a boiler apparatus capable of suppressing a decrease in the heat storage rate of a furnace. The present invention provides a method for operating a boiler in which a plurality of solid fuels are mixed and combusted. The method comprises the steps of: obtaining a content of ash in the plurality of solid fuels and a content ratio of at least one hydrous mineral in the ashes, and determining the mixing proportion of the solid fuels according to such a manner that the content ratio of at least one hydrous mineral in the integral ash of the mixture of the solid fuels equals to or is less than a referential value according to the content of ash of the respective solid fuels and the content ratio of at least one hydrous mineral in the ashes obtained in the previous step.
