An online fault monitoring method and system of a power distribution line are provided. When a power distribution line fails, unidirectional traversal is conducted from each alarm monitoring point as a starting point to a power supply point, a switch station, a ring main unit container and other alarm monitoring points as ending points. When no monitoring point is within a traversal region, existence of any power supply in the traversal region is determined. If there is a power supply, information of the traversal region is put into a list called powerlist; if not, the information of the traversal region is put into a result set. When no alarm monitoring point is in the traversal region and a non-alarm monitoring point is in the traversal region, existence of any power supply in the traversal region is determined.
