The invention relates to a simple method for testing the mechanical strength of a transformer oil tank, belonging to the technical field of special test detection for transformer production. The technical scheme is as follows: the method comprises the following steps: erecting a reference rod (2) at four corners of an oil tank (1) respectively, and connecting the four reference rods together through a chalk line (3), wherein the chalk line and the reference rods are combined together and surround the oil tank to form a measurement external reference which stays still in a test process; determining a measurement point on the outer side of the oil tank wall, wherein the spatial location of the measurement point dynamically moves along with the change of actual vacuum degree/pressure value in the oil tank; measuring the space variation between the measurement point and the chalk line using a box staff when the oil tank is in negative-pressure and positive-pressure states; and comparing the dynamic variations of
