Summary:In this image acquisition device (M), through the arrangement of an optical path difference generating member (21), a difference in optical path length of a second optical image can be formed without optical branching in a second optical path (L2) used for focus control. Consequently, the amount of light into the second optical path (L2) needed to obtain focus position information is suppressed, making it possible to secure the amount of light when imaging with a first imaging device (18). Further, in the image acquisition device (M), between a first surface (26) and a second surface (27) of the light path difference generating member (21), a light decreasing unit (28) is provided which decreases the light reaching the imaging surface (20a) of a second imaging device (20). This light decreasing unit (28) enables narrowing the optical overlap region (29) in the imaging surface (20a) of the second imaging device (20), making it possible to accurately control the focus position on a sample (S).
