Summary:A method and device for a hard disk drive to execute an application code, related to the technical field of storage, allowing a hard disk drive to support a mode of accessing the hard disk drive on the basis of an application code coming from external of the hard disk drive, thus enhancing the performance of the hard disk drive and enhancing interaction capability between a client and the hard disk drive. The method comprises: a hard disk drive receives an application code and an execution policy for the application code; the hard disk drive determines, on the basis of the application code, whether or not the application code needs to be executed in a virtual machine environment; and if yes, then the hard disk drive executes the application code in the virtual machine environment on the basis of the execution policy for the application code.
