The method comprises: receiving an upload instruction of a target image; performing compression processing on the target image according to a preset pixel compression ratio to obtain a compressed image; and if the data volume reduction ratio of the compressed image for the target image is less than a preset ratio threshold, uploading the target image, and if the data volume reduction ratio of the compressed image for the target image is greater than the preset ratio threshold, uploading the compressed image. With the adoption of the method and the apparatus, the influence on image quality can be reduced in a process that an image is repeatedly uploaded and downloaded.
