Summary:A shut-off and/or control element for tapping off molten metal from a metallurgical vessel (2) having an inner tube and an outer tube should be capable of being shut off even when a gap between the circular cylindrical main sealing surfaces (8, 14) of the tubes (3, 9) has widened. For this purpose, at least one end face (6, 7) of one tube (3) and one end face (12, 13) of the other tube (9) are situated opposite one another. In the case of leaks at the main sealing surfaces (8, 14), the end faces (6, 12 and/or 7, 13) are pressed against one another and form substitute sealing surfaces.
