The invention discloses a method and a device for adding instant messaging friends. The method comprises the steps as follows: displaying a friend list of a second IM user on a user interface of a first instant messaging IM user, wherein the second IM user is the friend of the first IM user, and the friend list of the second IM user comprises at least one third user; obtaining first intimacy information between the first IM user and the second IM user and second intimacy information between the second IM user and the third IM user; judging whether the first intimacy information and the second intimacy information meet a preset condition or not; displaying a first operation entrance for directly adding the third IM user as the friend if the first intimacy information and the second intimacy information meet the preset condition so as to transmit a friend adding request to the third IM user while receiving the friend adding request for adding the third IM user as the friend via the first operation entrance. Therefore, the invention could avoid the generation of over-many waste requests while adding the friends.
