Summary: | Provided is a method for polymerizing an olefin with which polyolefins are produced with high productivity while suppressing a reactor sheeting and caking phenomenon. The method for polymerizing an olefin includes the steps of: supplying at least one alpha-olefin and a circulation gas including an inert gas to a reactor; polymerizing the alpha-olefin into a polyolefin, in the reaction area inside the reactor; and discharging the produced polyolefin polymer from the reactor. The reactor comprises a cylindrical lower part (a) which is the lower part of the reactor and a conic upper part (b) which is located above the cylindrical lower part (a) and is opened to the top, wherein the angle of inclination (s) with respect to the vertical line in the conic upper part (b) is between 4 and 7 degrees; the inner part of the reactor is divided into a reaction area (A) which is the fluidized bed area where polymerization of an olefin takes place and a free area (B) which is located above the reaction area (A) and at which solid polyolefin particles separate from the gas; and the height of the fluidized bed is higher than that of the cylindrical lower part (a) and is 80% of the height of the conic upper part (b) or lower. |
