Summary: | The invention relates to a method for increasing the Verdet constant of an optical fiber by a radiation technique. The method includes the steps: 1) uniformly winding a single-mode optical fiber into a circular ring with the diameter of 10cm-20cm, and placing the circular ring into a container; 2) placing the container in a Co-60 ray radiation field for radiation under aerobic conditions for 30-60 minutes with the total dose of 600-1200Gy; 3) testing the Verdet constant of the single-mode optical fiber after standing for 2-6 hours. Compared with an optical fiber without radiation, the Verdet constant of the single-mode optical fiber is increased by 0.3-0.5 time. Complicated processes such as precast rod doping concentration control are omitted, the method is low in cost and simple to operate, and the Verdet constant of the optical fiber can be effectively increased. |
