Summary:The invention discloses spinel lithium titanate with low gas production rate and a method thereof; the spinel lithium titanate with low gas production rate has the composition of Li[4-x]Ti[5-y]O[12].zLiTi[2](PO[4])[3], wherein 0<=x<=0.04, 0<=y<=0.08, and 0.005<=z<=0.05. The preparation method comprises the following steps: 1) fully dispersing spinel lithium titanate with deionized water to obtain a suspension; 2) adding a raw material containing Li<+>, Ti<4+> and PO4<3+> to the suspension I obtained in the step 1); 3) placing the suspension I in a high pressure reaction vessel, and carrying out a reaction to obtain a reaction mixture; 4) filtering and separating the reaction mixture to obtain a filter residue; and 5) washing and drying the filter residue to obtain the spinel lithium titanate with low gas production rate. According to the method, the surface of the material is subjected to modification coating, so that the direct contact degree between an electrolyte solution and a lithium titanate material is reduced, interfacial side reactions are inhibited, the gas production rate is greatly reduced, and the safety is improved.
