Summary:The invention relates to a method for identifying a function defect of at least one active switch element of an active bridge rectifier 40 in a locomotive power grid (10). The active bridge rectifier converts AC voltage to DC voltage. At least one voltage change curve of the AC and the DC voltage is detected. Based on the sum and/or the comparison with a predetermined value of more or more maximum value and/or minimum value, function defect of at least one active switch element is determined. A device used for applying the method is also disclosed in the invention.
