The invention discloses a method and a device for controlling multicast traffic, and relates to the field of data transmission. The method provided by the invention comprises the following specific steps: during transmission of a multicast message, if outgoing interface boards of which the bandwidths are insufficient for receiving the multicast message exist, duplicating the multicast message, deleting the identifiers of the outgoing interface boards of which the bandwidths are insufficient in the outgoing interface boards specified by one of the multicast messages, and transmitting the multicast message to be transmitted to an exchange network; and replacing the identifiers of the outgoing interface boards specified by the other multicast message with the identifiers of the reset of outgoing interface boards of which the bandwidths are insufficient, returning to a waiting queue. Only the outgoing interface boards with sufficient bandwidths are selected for transmitting the multicast message, so that the problem of packet loss since sufficient bandwidths of the outgoing interface boards to which the multicast message is transmitted for transmitting the multicast message during duplication of the multicast message in the exchange network is solved. The method and the device are mainly applied to the data transmission process of distributed equipment.
